Waiting on Wednesday #8 - Are U 4 Real? by Sara Kadefors

Kyla is exactly the kind of girl Alex could never talk to in real life. She’s a gorgeous, outspoken L.A. girl who parties to forget about her absent father and depressed mother. He’s a shy ballet dancer from outside San Francisco who’s never been kissed. Luckily, when these sixteen-year-olds meet for the first time it’s not in real life—it’s in a chat room, where they can share their feelings of isolation and frustration away from the conformity-obsessed high school scene. Alex and Kyla quickly forge a friendship that’s far from virtual— maybe they’re even falling in love. But what happens when the soul mate you’ve never met moves from online to in person?
(Summary from Amazon)

Ah! This look sooo good. And the authors from Sweden to boot.
This kind of reminds me of the book "m or f?" except without the homosexuality aspect...
I will definitely be picking this up as soon as it comes out.
Plus, the cover's adorable.

  4. They've changed it sooo much from the swedish original, the cities the names. Hope that it's still as good as Sandor/Ida (the swedish title)

  5. too bad they changed so much in the american edition though. in the swedish version it's a whole lot of sex, but I guess that too much for american readers?

  6. They mentioned the censoring and changes on a Swedish Tv-show called Kobra.

The main characters names were changed from Sandor and Ida to Kyla and Alex.
The original title, Sandor/Ida (/= Slash) could've worked in English as well, even if you changed it to Kyla/Alex.
They also changed the setting of the book from Stockholm and Gothenburg in Sweden to L.A and San Fransisco.

Plus, they cut out parts that were deemed to risqué. Here's one part with Ida that they scrapped. I took the liberty to translate it to English:

"Suddenly her head is filled with an image. It's Isak, Hampus, Therese and herself involved in a gangbang, grunting and going on. Disgusted she tries to look a way. Maybe she has watched to many pornos in the homes of horny male friends, maybe you are affected even if you haven't watched actively. She who almost never thinks about sex or ever wants it any more, maybe it's the porno watching that has made her so balsé. Or is it the sex itself? She started already at the age of twelve, so maybe she's just gotten tired of it."
