Happy Meme

There was no solid Booking Through Thursday prompt to post about today so I'm going to do a little happy meme instead. :P

1. Chai tea. I'm not a huge coffee person. I'll drink it, yeah, but with lots of sugar. The better option would be the calory filled cup of chai. Mmm.

2. Charlotte Sometimes' CD. Found it thanks to I Heart Daily and now I'm listening to it obsessively

3. Taking pictures. I'm definitely not very good but it's fun to do. I'm taking one self portrait a day this year. :)

4. Changing seasons. Which is good since I live in the state with the craziest seasons. I like each of 'em and they all happen to the fullest here.

The book that’s been on your shelves the longest: 

A treasury of old Beatrix Potter stories. It's this big blue hardcover that looks like one of those classic storybooks in movies that moms always crack open to read to their kids from when they're getting ready to go to bed. It's even got some ritzy gold leaf on the edges of the pages.Ah memories... <3 class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: bold;">A book that reminds you of something specific in your life (a person, a place, a time, etc.): 

Olivia the Pig books remind me of Christmases back when I was a wee little child. :) I got a different one each year from my aunt and I loved getting them so much. I have four of the big hardcover ones...I think I'm actually missing one now so I'll have to go search for it at B&N.

A book you acquired in some interesting way (gift, serendipity in a used bookstore, prize, etc.):

I've got review copies, tattered bookmooch books, books from when I was little, and a plethora of signed books which I guess is all pretty interesting. My most recent interesting find was a signed copy of Chains by Laurie Halse Anderson at my local B&N. Loved finding that.

The most recent addition to your shelves: 

I received Shelter Me by Alex Mcaulay for review a week or two ago. I don't usually get a ton of books for review and I don't buy very many so my book shelf grows really slowly...I like it that way though. No pressure. :)

A book that’s been with you to the most places: 

The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold. It's got tons of dog ears, the cover is creased and cracked, and the pages are brown-ish (it's from bookmooch). I've carried it around with me everywhere for the past month and I haven't posted new chapter observation things for a while! It's so bad. I promise I'll get one up within a few days. :P I'm a complete slacker. It's a really good book though.

A bonus book that you want to talk about but doesn’t fit into the other questions:

I don't know! My bookshelf isn't really that interesting! I always see pictures from other bloggers who have these uncontrollable bookshelves and are constantly getting books to review and I don't understand it! I guess I'm sort of boring. I don't have a huge flow of books coming my way, my bookshelf is organized and contained, and my whole book fetish is rather laid back in comparison to other people. I can only stay that way because of my super fantastic local library. I make around two trips there every week. Love it.

New Year Resolutions

I was tagged by Emily to share three of my New Year Resolutions. I have to tell you that I am totally horrible at commitment and none of these things will actually happen, but hey, dream big right?

1. Finish two books a week, eight books a month. Seems pretty doable, I know, but at the rate I've been going lately, that's going to be quite the stretch for me. 96 a year...woah.

2. Finish the academic year out strong. I've got pretty decent grades and I want to keep that going through the end of this semester in January and through the end of the school year. 

3. Make room in my busy life to LIVE A LITTLE. I want to get out there and do more things. Any kind of thing. Just do MORE.  :)

1. Who’s your all-time favorite author, and why?
Why do we have to start with the hardest question first? And although that is a really difficult question I think I can narrow it down to a few. I would say that Meg Cabot is the author whose books I have enjoyed the most because she has so many of them and if there were ones I didn't like, the good ones outweighed them. It's all a matter of my satisfaction average. Ha. I would also say Stephenie Meyer for obvious reasons. And John Green, not because of An Abundance of Katherines but for Looking For Alaska which was pretty much the best book ever. Ever. There are some other authors out there whose books I've thoroughly enjoyed, but I haven't read enough of their stuff to say that they're on my all-time favorite list. They're getting there though. Some of those guys are Siobhan Vivian, Richelle Mead, Gabrielle Zevin, Maureen Johnson, E. Lockhart, Susan Beth Pfeffer, Elizabeth Scott, and tons more. There are too many good authors out there.

2. Who was your first favorite author, and why? Do you still consider him or her among your favorites?
Marc Brown. He's the author of the Arthur series and those books are works of genius. Seriously, if you didn't enjoy Arthur as a kid there is something wrong with you. And they even made a TV show out of it too! What could be better? And no, I don't think he's one of my favorite authors now, because I read YA, not books about aardvarks.

3. Who’s the most recent addition to your list of favorite authors, and why?
Probably Siobhan Vivian and Susan Beth Pfeffer and Jay Asher. Their books completely floored me and whenever any of them have a new book out, you can count on the fact that I will be the first in line to read it.

4. If someone asked you who your favorite authors were right now, which authors would first pop out of your mouth? Are there any you’d add on a moment of further reflection?
Meg Cabot and Stephenie Meyer would pop out on reflex because everyone knows about them and their books. They are also spectacular authors. If I was talking to someone who was actually "in the know" with YA books, I would say Scott Westerfeld, John Green, Sarah Dessen, Siobhan Vivian, Susan Beth Pfeffer, Jay Asher, E. Lockhart, Catherine Ryan Hyde, Cherry Cheva, and about a bajillion others who would be added if I had enough time to think.

Ooh! Fun! The closest book to me is the one I'm currently reading; One Whole and Perfect Day. I actually haven't gotten to page 123 yet, but here are my sentences, nevertheless:
After the shock he'd experienced-the place where he'd grown up vanished while his back was turned-Stan felt he needed meat. Meat of some kind anyway. "Got any Chiko Rolls?"
Huh? Does anyone know what Chiko Rolls are? I think the book is set in Australia so that might explain why I'm kind of out of it. :D Those are cool sentences though!

Now to the questions:
1.) If you were writing a book, what would your lead characters name be?
Oooh. That's hard. Probably Leah or Maddie. I kind of like the cute and simple names. And then for a guy, I'd choose Noah.
2.) What is your least favorite food?
Any kind of bean. Except for garbanzo beans. Those are good. I am especially disgusted by baked beans even though I don't think I've ever eaten them. There's just something so wrong about putting any veggie in nasty brown sauce. Ick.
3.) Are there any songs that get stuck in your head really easily?
Oh my gosh yes. Any song with a really simple melody and stupid words, I'll inevitably get stuck in my head. And then I'm humming it for the rest of the day! It's so annoying!
4.) If you could be (or are) a mythical creature, what would it be (or what are you)?
Hmmm. I think that I would like to be a shape-shifter because then you can take on all sorts of disguises and be whatever you want to be.
5.) What do colors taste like?
What a good question. I think colors taste like what you kind of perceive them as. Like brown tastes warm and thick and yellow tastes light and airy. It would be so cool to taste colors!
6.) Which Disney princess is your favorite?
Aack! That's so hard! I really like Belle because she sings all those cool songs and is a bookworm. But I also like Mulan. I don't think she's technically a princess though.
7.) What kind of toothpaste do you use?
I use that all natural stuff.
8.) If you could chose one superpower, what would it be?I
I would want to fly. I think it would be so cool to see everything from a bird's eye view!

Six Random Things Meme!

I was tagged by Em for the Six Random Things Meme! And since this is my first meme, I figured I had to do it. And then while I was thinking about what my answers were going to be, I learned that it is really hard to think of random things about yourself! But, I tried my hardest to be interesting and creative, so here's my attempt:


1. I love chai tea. Whenever I go to a coffee shop, I never get coffee, I always get a chai. It has vanilla, spices, cinnamon, and warm milk. What more could a girl need on a rainy day?

2. I have never been able to pick a favorite color. I like all of them; it depends on my mood. I especially like the cooler pastel colors but if you can find a bright pink, orange, or yellow, then I'll be sure to fall in love with that color too. So whenever people ask me what my favorite color is, I say the first thing that pops into my head that day.

3. Best movie ever = August Rush. I saw it about a month ago at this little theater about two blocks from my house and, oh my gosh, it was amazing. I loved the music and the ambience, the plot line, and the characters. It was one masterpiece of a movie and you should all go out and see it ASAP. It just came out on DVD and I am just waiting until I have enough money to buy it so I can watch little Freddie Highmore with his adorable accent over and over again.

4. green beans are gross.

5. I love snow. Maybe not the actual wet flakes, but I love the whole idea of it. Right now, I'm staring out of my bedroom window at the branches of a tree that have little puffs of snow resting on every twig. It's sooo pretty. It snowed over night here, so nothing has had the chance to be messed up yet, and it's truly beautiful.

6. I'm going to the mall today! Yay! I get to go shop a little for my spring clothes, of which I have none. I swear, I think I have some ratty t-shirts and a pair of shorts or two and that's it. I don't think that's really going to get me through the summer.
